Robbie Fowler is set to join Leeds United AFC on Wednesday after Liverpool FC agreed to sell the striker for a fee of around €17.5m.

Robbie Fowler is set to join Leeds United AFC after Liverpool FC agreed to sell the striker for a fee believed to be in the region of €17.5m.

Personal terms agreed
The England striker should complete the move from his hometown club on Thursday. He agreed personal terms on Wednesday and now needs only pass a medical. Leeds chairman Peter Ridsdale told the Elland Road club's website: "We've agreed terms with Robbie and he will now have a medical which should be completed by tomorrow afternoon."

'Undisclosed' fee
Leeds and Liverpool agreed the transfer on Tuesday night, although Ridsdale said the exact fee "would remain undisclosed". Liverpool spokesman Ian Cotton announced: "Leeds have been given permission to speak to the player. The deal has not been done, though. It's now up to Robbie to discuss personal terms."

'Difficult decision'
Fowler, who has been with Liverpool for the entirety of his professional career, said: "It was always going to be a difficult decision to leave Liverpool because, even if I have my reasons, the fans there were a powerful reason for me to stay. But Leeds are a great club and the chance to be part of what is happening at Elland Road was too good to miss, particularly under the current circumstances."

Future in doubt
The 26-year-old forward's Anfield future has been in doubt for some months after it became clear he was no longer an automatic member of coach Gérard Houllier's first-choice lineup. He has found his opportunities limited by international colleagues Michael Owen and Emile Heskey.

More than 100 goals
Since making his debut for the Merseysiders, Fowler has clocked up 210 full league appearances, scoring 120 goals in the process, and won 22 international caps for England. In all competitions for Liverpool, Fowler scored 171 goals in 330 matches.

Final appearance
Fowler's final appearance in a Liverpool shirt came in last Sunday's FA Premiership encounter with Sunderland AFC, when acting Liverpool manager Phil Thompson substituted him at half-time.
