Club Brugge KV have signed Croatian striker Boško Balaban on a free transfer
Two-and-a-half year contract
The striker has signed a two-and-a-half year contract at the Belgian champions, having had his Aston Villa FC deal terminated last month after an unhappy two-season spell. Last term he returned to Croatia on loan with NK Dinamo Zagreb, and scored 15 goals in 18 games. He previously had talks with Empoli FC.
'Live on goalscoring'
Balaban said: "Scoring is my speciality. When you play up front, you live on goalscoring. I have been well aware of Club Brugge for many years now. Thanks to [Mario] Stanic, [Robert] Spehar and now [Tomislav] Butina, Brugge are well known in Croatia." Having been out of action of late, he added: "I may still need a couple of weeks to get into top shape."
Brugge technical manager Marc Degryse declared: "When circumstances allow you to sign a player with his qualities, you should not hestitate." Balaban's new side, who began the season in the UEFA Champions League, commence their UEFA Cup campaign on 27 February with a third round first-leg tie at home to Hungarian side Debreceni VSC.
