Defender Neven Subotić told UEFA.com that Borussia Dortmund had missed the chance to take "a big step" towards qualifying from Group J after an entertaining goalless draw at Paris Saint-Germain FC.

The German Bundesliga leaders remain third in the section, three points behind second-placed PSG, after registering a hard-earned point in the French capital. With a home game with FC Karpaty Lviv and a trip to Sevilla FC to come, Subotić is under no illusions about the size of the task ahead.

"It's very tough," said the 21-year-old centre-back. "We could have taken a big step today. We didn't take a step backwards but we didn't take one forward either. We stayed in the same place we were, but now we have only two games left. We have to hope a little bit for [group leaders] Sevilla [on Matchday 5], and we have to win our games and see what happens."

The situation could have been worse for Jürgen Klopp's men had PSG taken their opportunities. A victory for the Ligue 1 outfit would have eased them into the knockout rounds, but PSG forward Mevlüt Erdinç in particular was denied a breakthrough by some errant finishing and the alert goalkeeping of Roman Weidenfeller.

Dortmund, too, had their openings, especially during a late flurry in which PSG keeper Apoula Édel took centre stage as Dortmund swarmed forward in numbers, throwing off the more sophisticated approach that had reaped little reward.

"We got to the final 25 metres and then kept playing one one-two too many. If we had shot half the time when we had the chance, we would have scored," said Serbian international Subotić. "PSG had one great chance with Erdinç, but our goalkeeper did well. Other than that they didn't have too many. We just failed to take ours, and if you look at the second half you can say we dropped two points."

Those points could prove costly in the final reckoning. Many are pointing to the Matchday 6 trip to Sevilla as decisive for Dortmund, but they also required two late goals to beat Karpaty in September and Subotić warned against complacency when the Ukrainian side come to Germany. "Karpaty Lviv aren't going to give us any points," he said. "We had an exciting game in Lviv and I think it'll be equally exciting at home."
