Manuel Fernandes has become the third Portuguese international to join Beşiktaş JK in the transfer window, arriving on loan from Valencia CF until the end of the season.

The 24-year-old midfielder follows in the footsteps of Simão and Hugo Almeida, who agreed moves to the Black Eagles late last month from Club Atlético de Madrid and SV Werder Bremen respectively. "It's a very important club with quality players," said Fernandes, who has made seven league appearances for Valencia this term. "I've been told about the club's extremely passionate fans and I'm really looking forward to meeting them. I came here to help the club win titles."

A product of the SL Benfica academy, Fernandes won the Portuguese Liga title with the Lisbon outfit in 2004/05 while playing alongside Simão. Loan spells with Everton FC and Portsmouth FC followed before he joined Valencia for €12m in August 2007.

Beşiktaş are fifth in the Turkish Süper Lig at the winter break, 14 points behind leaders Trabzonspor AŞ. Bernd Schuster's team meet FC Dynamo Kyiv in the UEFA Europa League round of 32, with the first leg in Istanbul on 17 February.
