Young defender Martin Kelly will sit out both legs of Liverpool FC's UEFA Europa League round of 16 tie against SC Braga, with a torn hamstring set to keep him sidelined for a month.

The 20-year-old was taken off before half-time in Liverpool's 3-1 Premier League defeat at West Ham United FC on Sunday, with the Merseyside club's medical staff confirming he would not be fit again for at least four weeks.

As well as both matches against Braga – on 10 and 17 March – full-back Kelly will miss Sunday's league meeting with leaders Manchester United FC at Anfield. Kenny Dalglish's Reds, in sixth, will be attempting to reduce the current nine-point gap between themselves and the UEFA Champions League places.

An England Under-21 international, Kelly has played in ten European games this season – four in qualifying and six since the start of the UEFA Europa League group stage.
