AZ Alkmaar have rewarded coach Gertjan Verbeek with a two-year contract extension after an impressive 18 months in charge.

Verbeek is now committed to the Alkmaar side until summer 2015, having assumed the reins for the start of the 2010/11 campaign. AZ finished fourth last season and are currently one better this term, only two points shy of Dutch Eredivisie leaders PSV Eindhoven. "I have been working very well with everyone here at the club, so I am extremely happy with it," said the 49-year-old of his renewed terms.

Verbeek's charges were second in UEFA Europa League Group G and will face RSC Anderlecht in the round of 32, with the first leg in Alkmaar on 16 February and the return in Brussels the following Thursday.
