FC Wil 1900 will be able to compete in the UEFA Cup next season after being granted a licence to compete in the Swiss Challenge League.
Wil were relegated from the top flight in Switzerland after finishing bottom of the league but qualified for the UEFA Cup after beating 18-times winners Grasshopper-Club in the Swiss Cup final.
However, they risked losing the chance to compete in the tournament due to their financial problems. They also faced the threat of relegation to the third tier of Swiss football but have now successfully appealed against the decision to deny them a place in the Challenge League.
The decision means Grasshoppers will not be playing in Europe next season. The Zurich club would have taken Wil's European place had they been denied the chance to compete in the Challenge League.
