Six go through as Atlético run ends

Club Atlético de Madrid's winning run finally ended while six clubs qualified for the knockout rounds and Edinson Cavani scored four for a resurgent SSC Napoli on matchday four.

After winning 16 consecutive games in UEFA competition, Club Atlético de Madrid finally lost on matchday four as A. Académica de Coimbra pulled off a famous win, while Edinson Cavani produced the individual performance of the night and Taison perhaps the goal of the season.

Wilson Eduardo scored twice as Académica stunned the UEFA Europa League holders in Coimbra. Atlético still lead the way in Group B, but their loss allowed FC Viktoria Plzeň to pull level on points thanks to an emphatic 4-0 victory against Hapoel Tel-Aviv FC.

In Group F, another perfect record was ended as SSC Napoli came from 2-1 down to defeat FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk 4-2, the irrepressible Cavani scoring all four goals for the home side. In the same section, AIK's 1-0 triumph against PSV Eindhoven leaves the Dutch team struggling to make the knockout stages. PSV sit bottom, five points behind leaders Dnipro with two games to play.

FC Anji Makhachkala turned the tables on a youthful Liverpool FC to beat the English club 1-0 while BSC Young Boys chalked up a second win against Udinese Calcio. Just three points separate all the sides in Group A.

It is a clearer picture in a number of other pools with FC Internazionale Milano and FC Rubin Kazan through in Group H, while FC Metalist Kharkiv and Bayer 04 Leverkusen have achieved the same in Group K. Metalist overcame Rosenborg BK 3-1, the highlight of the encounter an incredible volley from Taison.

Other teams to advance include the only side to sport four wins from four, Olympique Lyonnais, who edged a see-saw contest at Athletic Club 3-2. Hannover 96 are also in the hat for the draw on 20 December after winning their own five-goal thriller against Helsingborgs IF.

Fenerbahçe SK and FC Steaua Bucureşti are on the verge of joining the qualified clubs while victories for Tottenham Hotspur FC and S.S. Lazio strengthened their respective positions in Group J
