Besiktas bolster rearguard

Besiktas JK have signed 1. FC Köln central defender Mustafa Dogan and Rizespor goalkeeper Murat Sahin.

Veteran goalkeeper
Murat, 28, counts Adanaspor AS, Diyarbakirspor, Konyaspor and Fenerbahçe SK among his former clubs, but the veteran goalkeeper knows he has a fight on his hands to win a starting role at Besiktas, who finished third last season to earn a UEFA Cup place.

'Sweet competition'
"I have joined a team which already has two goalkeepers competing for a first-team place - now there are three of us," Murat said. "But I am confident in myself, and Besiktas will benefit from this sweet competition."

Istanbul return
Mustafa Dogan, also 28, is no stranger to Turkish football having spent seven seasons at Istanbul rivals Fenerbahçe after starting his career in Germany with KFC Uerdingen 05.

'Big targets'
Mustafa Dogan joined Köln in 2003 and scored once in 25 appearances last season as Köln finished bottom of the Bundesliga, but he is now looking forward to a new challenge at Besiktas. "Big teams have big targets, they are always out to win trophies," he said.

'Takes care of himself'
The Besiktas director of football, Kivanç Oktay, said the club have high expectations for the Turkish-born German national. "He is experienced, strong, takes care of himself," he said.
