Mario Been has signed a two-year contract extension with KRC Genk, tying him to the club until summer 2016.

Been took over as coach at Genk in summer 2011 and led the club to third place in his first season; his second campaign ended with the team fifth but with silverware in the shape of the Belgian Cup. The Dutchman is looking forward to developing the team further.

"I am happy we came to an agreement and that I can continue my work with this club," said the 49-year-old. "At Genk we are work together on a nice, ambitious project. I will continue to be part of that with great pleasure."

Genk will begin their UEFA Europa League campaign in the play-off round in August, with the draw on 9 August.
