Balakov continues
Sammer, who replaced FC Bayern München-bound Felix Magath, confirmed on Friday that Magath's assistant coach Krassimir Balakov will carry on working in that capacity for the 2004/05 season, but that Günther Schäfer would be appointed as a second assistant.
Former team-mates
Schäfer is a former Stuttgart player and played with Sammer at the club between 1990 and 1992. He gained his coaching license in 2000 and has signed a three-year contract with the club. Sammer, meanwhile, has returned to his former club by signing up fitness coach Christian Kolodziej on a three-year deal.
