Payer counts injury cost

SK Rapid Wien expect to be without their Austrian international goalkeeper Helge Payer for a month.

Injured ligament
The 24-year-old damaged a back ligament while warming up for Sunday's Bundesliga derby at FK Austria Wien, a 1-1 draw. Club doctor Robert Lugscheider is optimistic his absence can be limited to four weeks, although the keeper, who must follow a special recovery programme, will still miss key games.

Important dates
Chief among them are Rapid's UEFA Cup second qualifying round ties against Russian side FC Rubin Kazan. The first leg is scheduled for Vienna on 12 August, with the return taking place two weeks later. He will also sit out Austria's friendly against Germany on 18 August celebrating 100 years of the Austrian Football Association. The 2006 FIFA World Cup qualifier against England on 4 September could come too soon as well.
