Panathinaikos FC struck late to earn a 1-1 draw at PSV Eindhoven on matchday three and will hope for even better as the sides meet again in UEFA Europa League Group E.

• Guus Hiddink's PSV came up against Itzhak Shum's Panathinaikos in the 2004/05 UEFA Champions League group stage; PSV won 1-0 at home but lost 4-1 in the return fixture in Athens.

Panathinaikos's Swedish striker Marcus Berg played for PSV – on loan from Hamburger SV – in the 2010/11 season. Berg also played for FC Groningen in the Netherlands.

PSV's Jeffrey Bruma played alongside Berg and Panathinaikos team-mate Mladen Petrić during his time at Hamburger SV (2011–13).

The coaches
Panathinaikos coach Giannis Anastasiou was capped five times by Greece and played abroad with RSC Anderlecht, Roda JC and AFC Ajax among others. Briefly a first-team coach at Reading FC in England, he took command at Panathinaikos in May 2013.

• Having led PSV to Dutch Cup glory as caretaker coach in 2012, former midfielder Phillip Cocu took permanent command in 2013, after learning the ropes in a number of roles at the club. As a player, he collected 101 caps for the Netherlands and won four titles in two spells at PSV, as well as the 1998/99 Spanish crown with FC Barcelona, his club from 1998 to 2004.
