The 22-year-old had been linked with a move away from the Stadio Ennio Tardini after scoring 23 goals last season and another four as Italy won the UEFA European Under-21 Championship in June. Gilardino, whose career has also included spells at Piacenza FC and Hellas-Verona FC, is currently in Athens representing Italy in the Olympic games.
