Panathinaikos happier than PSV with draw

"It feels like we lost," said PSV Eindhoven's Luuk de Jong after Panathinaikos FC earned a 1-1 draw that Gordon Schildenfeld and Luke Steele hope can turn their campaign.

Luuk de Jong, PSV forward
It feels like we lost 1-1. When we were ahead we had chances to get more and we didn't take them, so there's always the possibility that you can concede. They started taking more risks in the last 15 minutes to try and equalise, with an extra striker, and we should have been smarter and kept things tight.

I'm really pleased that I set up Memphis [Depay] to score, but at the same time frustrated that I couldn't convert any chances and score one myself. All the same, we still have a good feeling after the three matches we've played so far. We don't think any of the other three teams are better than us, so we're looking forward to the next match and are confident about progressing to the next round.

Luke Steele, Panathinaikos goalkeeper
Our goal was a huge boost for us. If you get a point away in Europe it's always a good thing. PSV are only on four points and there are three games remaining so we're right back in the mix. There's a lot to play for.

We know that PSV play in an open style and like to attack, so we expected them to keep coming at us. Our tactic was to try and hit them on the counter, which worked. The coach told us at half-time to stay within one goal because then anything was possible, and we defended well and created a few good chances after the break. We thoroughly deserved at least a point.

Gordon Schildenfeld, Panathinaikos defender
I'm really satisfied and happy for my team-mates because we showed real character tonight to get a point. It was a difficult game against a really good opponent. We talked about it a lot beforehand and agreed we would give our best so we could look in the mirror afterwards and say we did everything we could. We played well and I hope now that better times will come.
