Napoli dispatch Fiorentina, Sevilla dig deep

SSC Napoli won the tussle between Italy's two UEFA Europa League hopefuls by sweeping aside ACF Fiorentina, while battling Sevilla FC foiled FC Barcelona and Club Brugge KV lost.

Just eight sides remain in UEFA Europa League contention, but two of them locked horns on Sunday as SSC Napoli got the better of ACF Fiorentina in Serie A. VfL Wolfsburg were the only other quarter-final hopefuls to prevail, as UEFA.com recaps in a look back at all the action ahead of Thursday's first legs.

FC Dynamo Kyiv's lead in Ukraine has been cut to five points after Serhiy Rebrov's men could only manage a 2-2 draw at home to FC Zorya Luhansk – four days on from beating the same side in the last eight of the Ukrainian Cup. Artem Kravets and Serhiy Rybalka got the goals for the capital club.
ACF Fiorentina slipped down to fifth spot in Serie A due to a damaging 3-0 reverse at SSC Napoli – their fellow contenders promptly leapfrogging them in the standings. Knocked out of the Coppa Italia semi-finals by Juventus in midweek, the Viola have conceded six goals in their last two fixtures.

• The pressure could be telling on Club Brugge KV after the Belgian pacesetters slipped to a 2-0 loss at KV Kortrijk in their second championship play-off encounter. Hit by a pair of early goals, the Bruges side now lead the way by just two points with eight games remaining.
• Third in Ukraine, FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk lost ground on second-placed FC Shakhtar Donetsk following a goalless stalemate with FC Metalist Kharkiv. Club top scorer Nikola Kalinić was unable to influence the outcome after being brought on as a second-half substitute.

• Still unbeaten at home this season, Sevilla FC mounted an impressive comeback to thwart Liga frontrunners FC Barcelona. Lionel Messi and Neymar gave the visitors a 2-0 cushion at the interval, but Éver Banega hit back after the break and Kevin Gameiro buried an 83rd-minute equaliser for fifth-placed Sevilla.
FC Zenit enjoy a healthy eight-point lead in Russia despite being held to a 1-1 draw at home to FC Rubin Kazan on Sunday. Stung by an early goal, André Villas-Boas's troops grabbed a share of the spoils thanks to Hulk's 48th-minute spot kick, though they ended with ten men following Domenico Criscito's dismissal.

• Fresh from sealing a German Cup semi-final spot in midweek, VfL Wolfsburg triumphed again on Saturday, prevailing 2-0 at Hamburger SV. Josuha Guilavogui and Daniel Caligiuri provided the goals to keep second-placed Wolfsburg ten points behind FC Bayern München.
SSC Napoli came out smiling in the tussle between Italy's two UEFA Europa League hopefuls as they beat Fiorentina 3-0. Dries Mertens, Marek Hamšík and José Callejón weighed in with the goals as Rafael Benítez's men climbed above their opponents into fourth with a first win in six league outings.
