Fiorentina returned to the top of Serie A and there were notable wins for the likes of Liverpool and Ajax as the UEFA Europa League teams geared up for matchday four.
The Viola slipped from the Italian summit after losing to Roma last weekend, but they are back in pole position following a 4-1 defeat of Frosinone, all four of their goals coming in the first half. It was a less productive weekend for Italy's other hopefuls, though, with Napoli held 0-0 at Genoa and Lazio succumbing 3-1 at home to AC Milan.
Liverpool fans enjoyed their weekend, in contrast, with new manager Jürgen Klopp enjoying his first Premier League success in a 3-1 win at Chelsea, where Coutinho struck twice. There was joy too for Eredivisie leaders Ajax, who slotted six unanswered goals past Roda, while Kuban brought up their own half dozen by beating Lokomotiv Moskva 6-2.
