Újpest apology for Kuranyi injury

Újpesti TE have apologised to VfB Stuttgart for a foul that resulted in injury to striker Kevin Kuranyi.

Újpesti TE club manager István Sallói has written to VfB Stuttgart to apologise for a foul that resulted in injury to German international striker Kevin Kuranyi.

Lengthy lay-off
Kuranyi will be out of action for a month with calf and ankle damage after being brought down by Újpest player Gábor Nagy in the UEFA Cup first round first-leg tie between the two sides in Budapest last Thursday.

Positive reaction
Sallói was quick to apologise on behalf of the Hungarian club for the incident and Stuttgart's club manager Thomas Weyhing thanked him for the gesture. "We are all very pleased by the reaction from Budapest and really appreciate this display of fair play," he said.

Comfortable winners
Stuttgart were comfortable 3-1 winners in Budapest and the two sides meet again at the Gottlieb-Daimler-Stadion on 30 September with a place in the group stage at stake. In-form Kuranyi and Nagy both scored in the first leg.
