Derby delight for Fenerbahçe and St-Étienne

Fenerbahçe and St-Étienne had plenty to celebrate after derby wins against fellow UEFA Europa League sides Beşiktaş and Lyon, while Manchester United sizzled back into form.

Fenerbahçe and St-Étienne grabbed the spoils on a weekend of high-profile derbies against fellow UEFA Europa League hopefuls, and there were smiles too for a Manchester United team back on track.

The Turkish Cup round of 16 brought a pair of UEFA Europa League sides together in Beşiktaş and Fenerbahçe, and it was Fener who got the better of their Istanbul neighbours thanks to Robin van Persie's decider in a 1-0 victory. A place in the last eight proved beyond Osmanlıspor, on the other hand, as they succumbed to Kasımpaşa after extra time.

Over in France, St-Étienne celebrated their fourth victory against Lyon in the last seven Rhone derby fixtures. Kévin Monnet-Paquet and Romain Hamouma found the net to lift Les Verts within a point of fourth-placed OL in the Ligue 1 table – but not before a late red card for the victors and two for their opponents.

Manchester United mustered an even more emphatic win as they piled more pressure on Premier League champions Leicester via a 3-0 away success, while second-placed Tottenham saw off Middlesbrough 1-0. Elsewhere, Schalke secured a point against Bayern and Villarreal held Liga high-fliers Sevilla.
