Senna suspended for positive test

Villarreal CF's Marcos Senna has been provisionally suspended after testing positive for a banned substance.

The Villarreal CF midfield player Marcos Senna has been provisionally suspended with immediate effect after testing positive for a banned substance following a UEFA Intertoto Cup match against Club Atlético de Madrid on 24 August.

No explanation
The 28-year-old Brazilian's A sample had tested positive for Bethamethosone and Methylprednisolone. On 1 October, UEFA notified the player through his club about the findings, indicating Senna's right to ask for the analysis of the B sample. Upon his request the B sample was analysed and proved the positive findings of the A sample.

UEFA Cup match
Senna is thus provisionally suspended with immediate effect until UEFA's Control and Disciplinary Body meet on 11 November to take a decision on the case. Villarreal, who will not be able to field Senna in the UEFA Cup group stage game against S.S. Lazio tonight, have until midnight CET on Saturday to appeal.
