Custódio sits out for Sporting

Sporting Clube de Portugal's Custódio will miss both matches against Newcastle United FC after knee surgery.

Sporting Clube de Portugal midfield player Custódio will miss both legs of his side's UEFA Cup quarter-final tie with Newcastle United FC after undergoing surgery on a knee injury.

Knee bother
The 22-year-old, who has scored three goals in 20 Portuguese SuperLiga matches this season for the Lisbon side, was forced to sit out both matches against Middlesbrough FC in the Round of 16 due to pain in his knee.

Month out
It was therefore decided that surgery was the best solution, so Custódio had the operation on Friday afternoon and is expected to be out of action for a month. The midfield player scored against Newcastle in December as the Portuguese team earned a 1-1 draw at St. James' Park in UEFA Cup Group D.
