Aguirre sticks with Osasuna

CA Osasuna's Mexican coach Javier Aguirre will lead the Spanish club into the UEFA Cup after agreeing a contract.

European return
The 46-year-old former Mexico coach took over at Osasuna after the 2002 FIFA World Cup, and transformed them from relegation candidates into an established Primera División force. This season they reached the Copa del Rey final, losing in extra time to Real Betis Balompié on Saturday, but earning a third UEFA Cup campaign - their first for 14 years - as the Seville side are in the UEFA Champions League.

Club statement
Aguirre, who played for Osasuna in the 1980s, had been linked with several teams as he was out of contract, but a club statement read: "Both parties want to express their satisfaction at the agreement which means Javier Aguirre will be spending his fourth season with Osasuna."
