APOEL swoop to sign Fernandes

Cypriot side APOEL FC have strengthened their UEFA Cup challenge with the signing of Ricardo Fernandes.

UEFA Cup contenders APOEL FC have signed Portuguese midfielder Ricardo Fernandes on a two-year deal.

Much-travelled career
The 27-year-old, who has been given the No10 shirt by the Cypriot side, has played for a number of clubs in Portugal, appearing 18 times last season for A. Académica de Coimbra. He was previously with Sporting Clube de Portugal, Gil Vicente FC and spent the 2003/04 campaign with FC Porto.

'Peak of his career'
Unveiling Fernandes at a press conference, APOEL chairman Prodromos Petrides said: "I am very happy to announce that APOEL have reached an agreement with Ricardo Fernandes – a player who has had an outstanding career in European football. He arrives as a player at the peak of his career and not towards the end of his career."
