APOEL plump for Portuguese

Portuguese midfielder Daniel Kenedy has followed Ricardo Fernandes to Cypriot UEFA Cup contenders APOEL FC.

'New experience'
The 31-year-old, who has had spells at Paris Saint-Germain FC, CS Marítimo, Benfica FC and SC Braga, departs A. Académica de Coimbra after less than nine months. "It will be a new experience," the Guinea-Bissau-born player said. "I will try to help APOEL reach the UEFA Cup group stage and hope we can win the title and the domestic cup."

Familiar face
The deal looks to have come too late for the former Under-21 international to play on Thursday, when APOEL begin their European campaign in the first qualifying round at Malta's Birkirkara FC. Compatriot Ricardo Fernandes, who joined the club last week, could feature and Kenedy said his former Académica team-mate had advised him to make the move. "Ricardo Fernandes is already here and has told me good things about the club and the city."
