Savićević hurt in car accident

FK Crvena Zvezda dedicated their UEFA Cup victory against SC Braga to former star Dejan Savićević as he recovers in hospital following a collision.

Several injuries
The 39-year-old vice-president of the Football Association of Serbia and Montenegro was on his motorbike when in a collision with a car in the centre of the Montenegrin town of Podgorica last night. He broke both his wrists, his left arm, his pelvis and suffered injuries to his foot and face.

Not life-threatening
Doctors at the town’s hospital said his life was not in danger and is expected to make a full recovery. Savićević, who won the European Champion Clubs' Cup with both Crvena Zvezda and Milan, had been wearing a crash helmet and never lost consciousness. It is not yet known how long it will take for him to recover.

'My best friend'
News of the accident stunned Savićević's colleagues. Dragan Stojković, the Crvena Zvezda president, dedicated the UEFA Cup triumph against SC Braga in Portugal last night to his former team-mate. "Our successful qualification to the group stage is our gift to Savićević," Stojković said. "He is my best friend and I hope that he will be OK."
