Arveladze committed to AZ cause

Shota Arveladze has signed a new contract with AZ Alkmaar after scoring 22 goals in 31 games in his debut season with the Dutch Eredivisie runners-up.

AZ Alkmaar and Shota Arveladze have agreed a contract extension to keep the Georgian international striker at the Dutch club until the summer of 2008.

Committed to Alkmaar
The 33-year-old former AFC Ajax and Rangers FC forward has added 12 months to his existing deal, to the delight of AZ director Marcel Brands. "Several foreign clubs were interested in Arveladze, but the fact he wants to stay at Alkmaar shows he wants to help pursue the club's ambitions." Arveladze, who has also played for FC Dinamo Tbilisi and Trabzonspor, scored 22 goals in 31 Eredivisie games last season as AZ finished second in the Netherlands.
