Italian spells
The 26-year-old former youth international has moved after a successful ten-day trial, having spent the last two seasons on loan in Italy, at AC Venezia in 2004/05 and at Serie C team S.S. Sambenedettese Calcio last term. Nancy president Jacques Rousselot said: "It's important for us to be able to rely on a steady defence. It might be an overstatement but Damián has been compared to [Fabio] Cannavaro." Nancy, fourth in Ligue 1, return to European competition after 28 seasons on 14 September with a trip to FC Schalke 04 for the first leg of their first-round tie.
