Back strain sidelines Chevantón

Uruguay striker Ernesto Chevantón will miss the start of Sevilla FC's UEFA Cup defence after being ordered to rest for up to five weeks to cure a back injury.

Uruguay striker Ernesto Chevantón will miss the start of Sevilla FC's UEFA Cup defence after being ruled out for up to five weeks with a back injury.

Rest needed
Signed from AS Monaco FC for a reported €8m last month, the 26-year-old is yet to appear in a competitive game for the Andalusian club as persistent back problems have prevented him from fully participating in training. Chevantón was examined last night by Sevilla medical staff who identified an injury to his fifth vertebra as the cause of the problem. He has been ordered to rest completely and will therefore sit out the UEFA Cup first-round tie against Atromitos FC of Greece and a number of league matches.
