Ziganda savours 'historic moment'

José Ángel Ziganda was keen to enjoy "a historic moment" as his CA Osasuna side reached their first ever European semi-final against Spanish rivals Sevilla FC.

"A historic moment" was how José Ángel Ziganda described his CA Osasuna side's passage to their first European semi-final following tonight's 1-0 second-leg success against Bayer 04 Leverkusen. Juanlu Gómez's goal completed a 4-0 aggregate victory in their UEFA Cup quarter-final and Ziganda said he was delighted for the Pamplona club and their fans who can now look forward to an all-Spanish semi against Sevilla FC. "It's great for the supporters to be able to enjoy this," he said. "We are proud and so are they." Leverksen coach Michael Skibbe was magnanimous in defeat, admitting: "They deserved their victory."

José Ángel Ziganda, Osasuna coach
It was a tricky game. We knew if we lost an early goal then we might get nervous. We were better in the second half, though, and were able to get a goal and after that we relaxed and played much better. It is a historic moment for us and it's great for the fans to be able to enjoy this. We are proud and so are they. It is a big moment and we are enjoying the UEFA Cup a lot. It is going to be a very even tie against Sevilla. I know their level and that they are getting better all the time, but we will start off on the same footing.

Michael Skibbe, Leverkusen coach
Congratulations to Osasuna. They deserved their victory. They played really well in the first leg and although we gave a good performance today and had our moments, we just could not score a goal. I had to make substitutions during the match because of injuries [Tranquillo Barnetta and Ahmed Madouni both departed early] so I could not choose a more attacking team. We were close to scoring but we couldn't, so what more can I say?
