Giacomazzi adds edge to Empoli

Empoli FC continue to rebuild after taking Uruguay midfielder Guillermo Giacomazzi on loan from Serie B side US Lecce with an option to sign him permanently.

Peñarol experience
Giacomazzi joined Lecce from CA Peñarol in 2001 and scored six goals in 30 Serie A games during his first season in Italy. In total he has made 101 appearances in the Italian top flight and 54 in the second tier with Lecce. The 29-year-old spent the second half of last season on loan at US Città di Palermo appearing seven times for the Sicilian outfit and has become the club from Tuscany's fifth summer signing as they prepare for their first assault on Europe - having qualified for the UEFA Cup after finishing seventh in Serie A in 2006/07.
