Bellion adds bite to Bordeaux

FC Girondins de Bordeaux have strengthened their strike force ahead of their forthcoming UEFA Cup campaign by signing David Bellion from OGC Nice.

Third signing
Bellion, 24, returned to his native France in January 2006 after four and a half seasons in England with Sunderland AFC, Manchester United FC and a loan spell at West Ham United FC. The AS Cannes academy product, who scored 12 goals in 45 Ligue 1 matches for Nice, has been bought by the French League Cup winners for a reported €2m as a replacement for Jean-Claude Darcheville, who joined Rangers FC this summer. Bellion has become Bordeaux's third signing this summer after midfielders Mathieu Chalmé of LOSC Lille Métropole and Jussiê Ferreira of RC Lens. The 1995/96 UEFA Cup runners-up begin their European campaign on 19 September at the first round stage.
