Werder Bremen have loaned Brazilian international Carlos Alberto to São Paulo FC for the remainder of the season.

Homeward bound
The forward returns home only six months after moving to Bundesliga side Bremen from Fluminense FC in a €7.8m transfer. The 23-year-old, capped five times by his country, has been restricted to just two German league appearances and one UEFA Champions League outing this season because of fitness problems.

'Fresh start'
Bremen manager Klaus Allofs explained the decision to loan the player, saying: "We discussed with Carlos how to proceed and agreed that a loan would be a sensible solution – he can make a fresh start at Bremen in six months’ time." Carlos Alberto failed to settle at FC Porto during an earlier spell in European football before switching to SC Corinthians and then rejoining his first club, Fluminense.
