FC Basel 1893 goalkeeper Franco Costanzo will miss the second leg against Sporting Clube de Portugal after injuring his knee during the 2-0 loss in Lisbon.
FC Basel 1893's hopes of overturning a 2-0 deficit when they renew ties with Sporting Clube de Portugal next Thursday have taken a blow with the news that goalkeeper Franco Costanzo will miss the second leg.
The 27-year-old was substituted at the end of the first half in Lisbon because of a knee injury and tests have since confirmed ligament damage in addition to bruising of the shinbone. Basel expect Argentinian Costanzo to sit out four Super League games as well as the visit of Sporting, who look well-placed to reach the last 16. Meanwhile, the Swiss club have brought in former Czech Republic striker Vratislav Lokvenc, 34, on loan from FC Salzburg for the rest of the season.
