Sporting Clube de Portugal have signed defender Mário Sérgio from FC Paços de Ferreira.
The 23-year-old is the first signing of new Sporting coach Fernando Santos, and he has agreed a four-year contract with the option of a further 12 months. "I am very happy," said the right-back, who has played seven times for Portugal's Under-21 team.
Mário Sérgio could replace Brazilian César Prates in the Sporting lineup after the latter player was linked with a move away from the José Alvalade. "It was easy to reach an agreement," Mário Sérgio said. "I am an ambitious player. I have fought for this opportunity and now want to show my worth."
