Galatasaray calls for Gökhan Zan

Defender Gökhan Zan has left Turkish champions Beşiktaş JK to join Istanbul rivals Galatasaray AŞ, saying: "Repeating the success I had with Beşiktaş with Galatasaray would make me very happy."

Out of contract
The 27-year-old Black Eagles captain has joined Cimbom on a free transfer, having not been offered a new contract by his current club. "I was really excited and honoured when I received an offer from Galatasaray while I was uncertain about my future," said the Turkish international. "I made up my mind and am now looking forward to wearing a Galatasaray shirt. It is important to be coming here as captain of a titlewinning side. Repeating the success I had with Beşiktaş with Galatasaray would make me very happy."

Injury problems
Gökhan started his career at Hatayspor, joining second division Dardanelspor AŞ in 2000, and impressing in a three-year spell, earning the attention of PSV Eindhoven before joining Beşiktaş at the start of the 2003/04 season. Loaned to Gaziantepspor in 2004/05, he became a more regular fixture on returning despite persistent injury problems. The tall, powerful defender, capped 29 times, made 19 league appearances last season but was not offered a new contract. Galatasaray meet FC Tobol Kostanay of Kazakhstan in the UEFA Europa League second qualifying round on 16 and 23 July.
