Atouba follows Jol to Ajax

Thimothée Atouba said he was looking forward to making the most of his "good bond" with coach Martin Jol after following the Dutchman from Hamburger SV to AFC Ajax.

The 27-year-old Cameroonian defender moves on a free transfer having committed to two seasons with the Amsterdam outfit, with a further two-year option. The switch comes six weeks after Jol accepted a post at Ajax, and reunited the pair who first worked together at Tottenham Hotspur FC in 2004/05. "It is very positive to work with familiar people," said Atouba. "[Jol] has always has put faith in me and that's important to a player. I want to win the championship with Ajax. We have to work extremely hard for that." Ajax also have European ambitions, and enter the UEFA Europe League play-offs.
