Besiktas bite back at Malmö

Malmö FF 1-4 Besiktas JK (agg: 2-4) A Soulemayne Youla hat-trick in Sweden helped the Istanbul giants to turn the tide of their tie.

With the help of a Soulemayne Youla hat-trick, Besiktas JK overturned a one-goal first-leg deficit to reach the group stages of the UEFA Cup with a tremendous 4-1 victory away to Malmö FF in Sweden.

First strike
Besiktas started the game with the bit between their teeth and Çagdas Atan had already seen an early strike saved before Youla put them in front in the 28th minute. Çagdas Atan was the provider with a wicked left-wing delivery which was drilled low into the net by the left boot of Youla.

Deserved lead
Malmö were barely given time to recover from the opener before Ali Günes's pass split the Swedish side's defence and Youla raced away to beat Mattias Asper with another assured finish to turn the tie in the Turkish visitors' favour. The home side struggled to create anything during a disappointing first 45 minutes and went in at the break deservedly behind.

Sucker punch
Jesper Bech tried his luck from distance as the hosts began the second half brightly but any hopes of a comeback were soon quashed when Youla completed his personal treble. Ahmed Hassan provided a pass from the left wing that Youla collected and blasted into the net from 18 metres in the 52nd minute.

Consolation goal
With the tie as good as over, Malmö finally produced their best move of the night with 29 minutes remaining. Midfield player Alves picked the ball up 20 metres out and curled what turned out to be a fine consolation goal into the top corner. Besiktas had the last word, however, Metin connecting with a Kleberson cross in added time to complete the rout.
