Super Cup honour for Alves

Sevilla FC defender Daniel Alves reflected on "an unforgettable day" after getting his hands on two prestigious personal awards and the UEFA Super Cup.

One word summed it up as Daniel Alves contemplated following up being named the most valuable player of the 2005/06 UEFA Cup, which Sevilla FC won, with a man of the match award in the 3-0 UEFA Super Cup defeat of FC Barcelona: "unforgettable".

Leading light
As he was in the 4-0 UEFA Cup final defeat of Middlesbrough FC, Daniel Alves was outstanding as Sevilla swiftly added a second European trophy to the first claimed so impressively in Eindhoven in May - a performance which impressed the sell-out crowd at the Stade Louis II and the UEFA Technical Study Group who named him as the game's leading light. "This is such an unforgettable day in my life, receiving two personal awards and helping my team to win the Super Cup," said the 23-year-old.

'Sky's the limit'
"Winning finals is always tough but we worked for the victory and I'm delighted for our fans and the club," he added. "Let's hope Sevilla keep on winning titles. We're all committed to the cause and to helping each other and are playing at the highest level in European football at the moment. Beating Barça 3-0 or 1-0 doesn't matter as a victory in a final is a victory. We have no ceiling for our objectives, the sky's the limit."

Charity
As well as becoming the ninth player to scoop the man of the match award, Daniel Alves was also handed a €10,000 cheque to give to a charity of his choice by sponsors Carlsberg. "I need some time to think about which charity to choose but whoever it is they will definitely be happy," he said.
