FC Bayern München will be without summer signing Thiago Alcantára for their UEFA Super Cup meeting with Chelsea FC on Friday after the midfielder was ruled out for seven weeks with an ankle injury.
The Spanish international suffered ligament damage to his right ankle during Bayern's 2-0 Bundesliga win at home to 1. FC Nürnberg on Saturday, and will undergo surgery in Munich on Monday.
The 22-year-old acquisition from FC Barcelona will thus sit out Friday's meeting with UEFA Europa League winners Chelsea in Prague and is also expected to miss Bayern's first two UEFA Champions League games as they begin their title defence, with the group stage draw scheduled for Thursday.
