Luis Enrique has signed a one-year contract extension after leading FC Barcelona to a treble in his first season at the club, culminating in Saturday's UEFA Champions League victory over Juventus.
The 45-year-old, who had 12 months remaining on the deal he signed last summer, is now tied to the club until mid-2017. It continues a busy post-Berlin spell for the Catalan giants, who have signed Aleix Vidal from Sevilla FC and secured Daniel Alves, Jordi Alba and Pedro Rodríguez on fresh terms since being crowned European champions at the weekend.
"We are, naturally, very happy," said Luis Enrique. "After the wonderful year we've had, with difficulties but a very happy ending, we are more than thrilled about the prospect of winning more titles. Everything that we have ahead of us is more than exciting."
Luis Enrique's impressive debut campaign saw him complete the most successful first half-century of games in charge of Barcelona, racking up 42 wins, three draws and just five losses as he eclipsed the likes of Johan Cruyff, Helenio Herrera and Josep Guardiola. After lifting the Liga and Copa del Rey last month, goals from Ivan Rakitić, Luis Suárez and Neymar helped the Blaugrana secure their fifth European Cup.
Barcelona's next competitive game will be the UEFA Super Cup against Sevilla on 11 August.
