Article body
European final rematch
The two sides will meet on Sunday in Tampere in a re-run of the UEFA European Under-17 Championship final earlier this year which Portugal won 2-1 on home soil.
Spain through
After the Korean Republic's 3-2 win against Sierre Leone earlier in the day, Spain went into their final Group D match against the United States in Lahti knowing that they were definitely in the next round.
Top of the pile
Juan Santisteban's talented young side then produced their best performance of the tournament so far to win 2-0 against a US side who had won their previous two games. The result ensured Spain secured first place in the group with seven points, and so avoided a last-eight meeting with Brazil, who will now face the US.
Jurado opener
Forward Jurado opened the scoring after eleven minutes when his shot was deflected past US goalkeeper Quentin Westberg. Spain dominated the half, while the US, without rested teenage sensation Freddy Adu, failed to even muster a shot on target.
Silva sees red
When Spain's Silva was given a straight red card in the 46th minute for a push on Guillermo Gonzalez the Americans gained heart. Adu was thrown into the fray, but Spain held firm and made sure of the win in the 70th minute when Cesc blasted his side's second.
Amazing game
Portugal made sure that they will face Spain in the next round after an amazing Group C game against Cameroon. With Brazil comfortably top of the group, the two sides knew that the match represented a straight fight for second place.
Irresistible attacking play
Early in the second half, the Portuguese looked home and dry as they led 5-0 after some irresistible attacking play, notably an eight-minute hat-trick from Manuel Curto towards the end of the first half. However, Cameroon roared back into the game, cutting the deficit and then levelling the scores thanks to goals in the 88th and 90th minutes from Koel Nguemo and Etoundi Mbia.
Exhausted Portugal
However, an exhausted Portuguese side bravely hung on for the draw which sets up that mouthwatering replay of May's European final in Sunday's quarter-final. Hosts Finland were eliminated from the tournament yesterday.
