ITALY 1-0 TURKEY
Francesco Rocca, Italy coach
We were lucky tonight. We did not play well in the first half, maybe we were feeling the pressure of starting our campaign. I want to praise Turkey because they were unlucky not to score in the first half and I think the match would have been different if they could have got one goal from the many chances they created. In the second half we managed to play better, but still we did not perform as we can do. Now we can celebrate an important victory but I think that there is still a difference between the two sides from the physical point of view. We have been working hard on this aspect after our defeat against Turkey in the friendly we played a few months ago, but we haven't managed to reach their level yet. However, I believe my boys can grow during the tournament.
Abdullah Avci, Turkey coach
I think today we played very well. We created at least eight to ten clear chances to score, most of them during the first half. Italy started well after the break, played good football for about 15 minutes, troubled us with their tactics and scored a good goal. Then we tried to react and we gave everything until the final whistle in order to secure the equaliser but unfortunately we did not manage to score. I think we were very unlucky tonight.
BELARUS 0-4 ENGLAND
Piotr Mikheyeu, Belarus coach
It was a tough game and I think that the England team are stronger than ours at this moment in time. We played much better in the qualifiers than here - this is one of the weakest games we have played. I think that England have a good chance of reaching the final. We knew they were strong, and we could not withstand the pressure. It is just the start of the tournament, we still have two games left.
John Peacock, England coach
It is always difficult when you don't know the opposition, which was the case today. We didn't know a great deal about Belarus but obviously they had qualified for the finals so as far as we're concerned to score four goals and to more importantly have no goals conceded is a big plus for us. We have got some good players that can go forward and like to pass the ball correctly, and when it does go to the front line we have people who are quite exciting - we could have had one or two more. But at the end of the day we are happy with 4-0.
