Weary Moldova
They had few problems against a weary Moldova side who had done so well to fight back and secure a 2-2 draw against hosts Romania on the opening day.
Bäckman bundle
The Finns went ahead in the opening minute when Jani Bäckman bundled the ball into the net from close range. Thereafter Moldova's Evghenii Gorceac, Petru Stinga and Alexandru Suvorov all showed some highly-skilled touches, but it was the Finns who created the better chances, with Moldova goalkeeper Artiom Gaiduchevici forced to make four fine saves.
Liekoski disappointment
Finland finally scored a second goal a minute into stoppage time when Jami Puustinen struck on the counterattack. However the win was of little consolation to their coach Timo Liekoski. "We are disappointed not only because we did not qualify but because in the first game we played well against Austria and lost," he said.
Develop players
"However it is important to develop these young players and we shall do our best to win our last game [against Romania] and finish the tournament in second place," he added.
Result 'as expected'
Meanwhile Moldova coach Vladimir Gosperschi, whose side face group winners Austria in their last game, said: "The result was as expected, we were tired and my players are inexperienced."
