Goals in each half from Tevfik Köse helped Turkey take control of Group 6 in the Elite round of the UEFA European Under-17 Championship thanks to a 2-1 win against Scotland.
Turkey on top
Both sides had won their first games in the section on Tuesday, so something had to give in Kusadasi. In the event, it was mini-tournament hosts Turkey who dominated, Bayer 04 Leverkusen forward Tevfik opening the scoring in the 25th minute and adding his and Turkey's second with ten minutes remaining.
Point required
Abdullah Avci's side might have had more goals, creating a number of further opportunities with Özgürcan Özcan denied by the crossbar in the first half. Despite their dominance, however, Turkey were left hanging on as Andrew Bagshaw halved their lead from the penalty spot two minutes from time, but held firm for a second successive victory. A point against Azerbaijan on Saturday will be enough to earn Turkey a place in this summer's finals in Italy, while Scotland finish their campaign against France the same day.
