A swift response to falling behind ensured Hungary took a point off UEFA European Under-17 Championship Elite round Group 2 hosts Portugal in their opening mini-tournament match.
Quick response
Although Portugal began with intent it was Hungary who had the early chances, with UC Sampdoria forward Vladimir Koman forcing Ricardo Neves to save. Portugal defender André Pinto also made a vital intervention soon after. But Portugal recovered their poise, and after some useful pressure took the lead in the 34th minute through Tiago Cintra, as the Hungarian goalkeeper missed the ball under pressure from Ricardo Fernandes. However, two minutes later Adám Dudás's free-kick caught out Ricardo Neves.
Level group
Tiago Cintra and Németh both went close in the second half, but the game finished level, as did the other Group 2 fixtures between Sweden and Ukraine. On Tuesday, Hungary meet Ukraine in Mangualde and Portugal face Sweden in Penalva Castelo.
