Article body
Spain are on the cusp of qualification from Group A after defeating Ukraine 3-1 to maintain their perfect start to the UEFA European Under-17 Championship.
Captain scores
Having beaten France 2-0 in their opener, Spain took to the field with confidence high against a Ukraine side who lost by the same score to Germany on Wednesday. Captain Ignacio Camacho headed the tournament favourites in front after 31 minutes, although Spain had to survive a couple of scares before Iago Falqué doubled the lead on 62 minutes and Daniel Aquino made the game safe seven minutes later. Ukraine found the net in added time through Sergiy Shevchuk, giving them a late boost for the win the need against France on Monday, when Spain tackle Germany knowing a point would be enough to seal first place and a semi-final slot, though Fran Mérida will be suspended after being booked in both opening matches.
Bright opening
Spain wasted little time in taking the game to the team in yellow, and a fine solo run and shot from Isma López was saved by Vyacheslav Bazilevych. The goalkeeper was also alert to a goal-bound Falqué effort in the 25th minute, but could do nothing to prevent Camacho nipping in to nod in Ximo's corner. Ukraine worked a decent opportunity to go in on level terms, only for Shevchuk to shoot wide after being picked out by Maxym Bilyy.
Late consolation
FC Barcelona starlet Bojan Krkić then traded shots with Dimytro Korishko, both of which were saved, before Isma sent in a fine cross from the left which Falqué converted. Two quickly became three as Aquino turned in a Mérida centre, although Ukraine salvaged some late pride as Shevchuk cut in from the left and fired in a low shot to reduce arrears to 3-1.
