Iceland goalkeeper Trausti Sigurbjörnsson is out of the UEFA European Under-17 Championship after suffering a head injury in the 2-0 defeat by England yesterday.
Jóhannesson steps in
The ÍA Akranes player was hurt in the first ten minutes of the opening Group B encounter in Ronse, and taken off on a stretcher. He has now been ruled out for several weeks. Vignir Jóhannesson, who was Iceland's No1 before the Elite round when illness forced his replacement by Sigurbjörnsson, came on against England and is set to continue in the role. A UEFA statement read: "UEFA and all the other teams in the tournament wish Trausti Sigurbjörnsson a quick recovery and send him our best wishes."
Call-up
Arnar Darri Pétursson has been called into the squad as back-up. According to article 16.18 of the tournament regulations: "Injured or sick goalkeepers and a maximum of two injured or sick outfield players may be replaced upon medical evidence written in one of the three official UEFA languages and approved by the UEFA doctor on duty in the final round."
