Goal cancelled out
Cunningham, now with Manchester City FC, is from Galway and with 13 minutes left ensured the hosts earned a draw against a nation who have reach the last two finals tournament. Germany took an eighth-minute lead when Marcos Alvarez's cross found top scorer Felix Kroos, who showed he had his elder brother Toni's touch as his shot deflected in off Gavin Gunning.
All square
However, six minutes into the second half Alvarez was dismissed when he picked up a second booking for a foul on Aaron Doran, and the Ireland player set up two good chances before Cunningham found the target with a low shot. Doran was denied a winner late on by a fine Björn Bussmann save, but on Saturday Germany face Portugal and Ireland meet Greece with the other two sides having also drawn 1-1 today.
