Runners-up last season in a rematch of their 2009 final win against the Netherlands, Germany will be looking to add another title to their honours list. Stefan Böger's team registered an astounding 23 successive wins before the 0-0 draw with Portugal that secured their passage to the finals.

"Usually I would have to be disappointed following 23 wins in a row, but this draw was one of the most important of my coaching career," Böger said. Defensive resilience is a key element of a team that conceded only once in six qualifying games. Niklas Süle, Marian Sarr and Jeremy Dudziak hold the back line together while Leon Goretzka provides leadership and drive in midfield. The attack is spearheaded by Said Benkarit, who registered three times on the road to Slovenia.

Böger, capped four times by the former East Germany, played in the top two levels of Bundesliga football after reunification and was in the Rostock side that managed a famous 1-0 home victory against FC Barcelona in the 1992 European Champion Clubs' Cup first round, losing 3-1 overall to the eventual winners. As a coach, he twice almost led Lübeck to promotion to the second division before joining the German set-up in 2008.
