Maarten Stekelenburg led the Netherlands to the Under-17 final last year and they return largely on the strength of their rearguard, which conceded just once in six matches. "We achieved our goal of qualifying," Stekelenburg said. "Now we can measure ourselves against the best in Europe, which is very important for the development of this generation."

The 2011 and 2012 champions, who have lost three finals in all, play in the typical Dutch 4-3-3 template. They impressed mostly in defence, notably goalkeeper Justin Bijlow behind a back line marshalled by captain Timothy Fosu-Mensah. The Oranje scored just seven times, with forwards Rashaan Fernandes, Javairo Dilrosun and Nigel Robertha getting one each.

Qualifying round: Finland 2-0, Malta 1-0, Serbia 1-0 (Group 8 winners)

Elite round: Georgia 2-0, Northern Ireland 1-1, Belgium 0-0 (Group 3 runners-up)
